The GED® is an American based International High School Equivalency credential. This alternative schooling option requires students to pass four external skills based test in Mathematics, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. There are no continuous assessment tasks. GED® graduates have many further study opportunities available to them in South Africa, particularly in vocational fields, but some academic studies at PUBLIC South African universities have prerequisites. The GED® is recognised by SAQA as an NQF level 4 qualification comparable to matric.
